Fat away with cold

Defined contours. Entirely without surgery.

Stubborn fat deposits on the abdomen, hips or thighs often cannot be fully reduced even with intensive training and an adapted diet. Cryolipolysis starts exactly there – with a purely physical principle, entirely without a scalpel.

Fat cells react far more sensitively to cold than the surrounding tissue. Precisely controlled cooling crystallises them and moves them into their natural breakdown process. In the weeks after the treatment your body removes the dead cells on its own via the lymphatic system – step by step, a visibly defined result emerges.

No scars. No anaesthesia. No downtime.

Why cryolipolysis?

01

Non-invasive

No anaesthesia, no incisions, no scars.

02

No downtime

Back to everyday life immediately afterwards.

03

Precise zone treatment

Targeted at the problem areas that bother you.

04

Fat cell reduction

The treatment can permanently reduce the number of fat cells in the treated area. However, if you gain weight, the remaining fat cells may enlarge.

Frequently asked questions about cryolipolysis in Zug

The treatment is generally well tolerated. At first, you may feel intense cold and a slight pulling sensation as the applicator draws in the tissue. After a few minutes, the area becomes numb and the cold is hardly uncomfortable. After treatment, the skin may be red, slightly swollen or sensitive, and small bruises may sometimes appear. These reactions usually resolve on their own within a few days to a few weeks.

A visible change can be seen after just one session per area. For a more pronounced result, I recommend two to three sessions per area, depending on your starting point. Several weeks are left between sessions to allow your body to break down the treated fat cells through the lymphatic system. I will discuss exactly how many sessions you need with you during the initial consultation.

The first visible results usually appear after six to eight weeks. The final result is generally reached after about three to four months. The cold damages fat cells, which the body then gradually breaks down. How quickly and clearly results appear varies from person to person. A reduction of around 20 to 25% of fat cells in the treated area is often cited as a general estimate. Remaining fat cells may enlarge if you consume more calories than your body uses. A balanced diet and stable weight may help maintain the result.

First, the applicator is placed on the treatment area, and a handpiece draws the skin into it. A special device then cools the fatty tissue to −5 °C to −10 °C. Because fat cells are more sensitive to cold than skin, nerves or muscles, they crystallise through the cold (cryocontraction), are damaged and die. The body recognises the dead cells as foreign bodies and breaks them down through the lymphatic system, which transports them to the liver. Over six to eight weeks, the fat volume is permanently reduced and your body shape becomes visibly more contoured.

Cryolipolysis is intended for stubborn fat deposits, not major weight loss. Treatment is ruled out for cold urticaria (cold allergy), cryoglobulinaemia or cold haemoglobinuria. I also do not perform it during pregnancy, in the presence of a hernia or weakness of the abdominal wall, or after recent surgery in the treatment area. Caution is also needed with skin injuries or skin conditions in the area and with circulation disorders. Blood-thinning medication may be a contraindication or risk factor. Before treatment, check with your doctor and me whether the procedure is suitable for you. Do not stop prescribed medication on your own. I will review all these points with you during the initial consultation.

  • Redness and swelling: May occur immediately after treatment and usually subside within a few days to a few weeks.
  • Bruising (haematomas): Often caused by the suction of the device's vacuum applicator.
  • Pain and tightness: Pulling, pressure or cramping may occur during and after treatment.
  • Numbness or tingling: Reduced skin sensitivity to touch may last for several weeks.
  • Temporary skin unevenness: The treated area may temporarily feel hard or look uneven.
  • Important: Aftercare can vary depending on the device and treatment protocol. Follow the individual instructions from your treating professional.
  • Massage: The professional may massage the treated tissue after removing the applicator. Follow their instructions.
  • Fluids: Drink enough water or unsweetened tea. Two to three litres a day is appropriate only if it suits your individual needs and there is no medical reason to restrict fluids.
  • Heat and sun: Ask when it is appropriate to return to saunas, solariums, steam rooms, hot baths and prolonged direct sun exposure.
  • Compression garments: Wear them only if recommended by your treating professional.
  • Movement and exercise: Light activity is usually possible. Ask when you can resume intense exercise or activities that put significant strain on the treated area.
  • Diet and weight: Cryolipolysis is not a weight-loss method. A balanced diet and stable weight may help maintain the result.
  • Numbness and tingling: Temporary numbness or tingling may occur. Contact your treating clinic if symptoms are severe, worsening or persistent.
